Lilliann's First Surgery

Posted Monday, October 12, 2009 8:18:17 PM
Today at 1:00 PM Lilliann went in for surgery at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center to have a mole removed from under her right eye. She's had the mole since birth, and we love it, but Dr. Christopher Gordon said there was a 1 in 1000 chance it could turn into melanoma. He was able to remove two-thirds of the mole today, and in 3-6 months will remove the rest. Below are photos from the day, or click here for the entire set.

This may be true of some moles, not sure. We did a consult with the plastic surgeon and he said removing it would be no problem, and that he recommended removal because it could potentially turn into melanoma.

Alright, it looks like the mole had been removed but there are not close up pictures on the home page to see the before and after situation of your daughter. Anyway, I believe what you say but was just trying to confirm if surgery really helps to remove moles. I was told by some people I know that some moles are connected to the blood vessels and it is not possible to remove such moles as the moles are not just facial. Not sure if that such of info is reliable or not.

Victor,

The mole is just below her eye. The other mark is just an ink mark from surgery.

I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean it looks worse... if you are referring to how it looks in the last photo on this page, then of course it looks worse. This is 8-10 hours after surgery. It is very swollen, has many stitches in it, and is quite bruised.

If you want to see what it looks like now, visit the homepage of my site and see more recent photos of my daughter. The mole is completely gone and the scar is just a thin line that is barely visible.

Is the mole just below her eye or the black looking thing which looks like a mole, but it is on her cheek. But from the photo after her surgery, it looks like the mole you referring to is the one just below her eye. If this is the case, after the surgery, it looks worse.

Thanks Lisa, :-) I will hopefully be able to shield her from the hateful and bitter people on the Voice, and the internet in general, for as long as possible. :-)
