Feed The Giraffes? Yeah right.

Maasai Giraffe picture by adamwlewis, on FlickrToday my family and I took our annual trip to the Cincinnati Zoo, and, like always, it was a blast. The animals were pretty active and easy to see, and the petting zoo was a big hit with my daughter and younger cousins. What wasn't a big hit, however, was the zoo's most talked about attraction: The Maasai Giraffes.

The zoo has been advertising all over television, their website, and other promotional material that you can "Feed a Giraffe" and that "They'll be eating out of the palm of your hand." Well, these statements are totally false. First off, they only give you leaves to feed the Giraffes at 1:00PM. So if you're not there then, you don't stand a chance. Secondly, to quote the zoo keeper, "the Giraffes are not used to human contact yet and probably won't be eating from visitors until next year." How can they advertise that you can feed a Giraffe if you can't feed a Giraffe??

Grrrr. Oh well, the Giraffes themselves were neat, like all the other animals; I just wish the Cincinnati Zoo was a little more honest in their marketing.
